NLCQG has a variety of programs and activities. These include the following:
The first Wednesday of December is reserved for our holiday party, which is held at a pre-determined location. It includes a special dinner, Christmas block exchange, additional alternate block exchanges, door prizes, and other various activities such as fat quarter exchanges or ornament exchanges. The Holiday Party is planned by the Executive Board, however, the theme for block exchanges is discussed in advance with the membership.
The Block of the Month Coordinator chooses block patterns and color combinations to be introduced each month. Instructions are included so that each member can make one or more of the specific block. Each block made allows eligible members to place their name in the drawing for that months' blocks. Members receive anywhere from 8 to 15 blocks. If participation permits, two drawings are held. Once a member wins, she is not eligible to win again until she participates for six months.
The Challenge Quilt Chairman determines the theme and rules for the challenge. Each new challenge is introduced one month after the quilt show. All members are encouraged to participate and are given one year to complete their project. All projects should be kept confidential so voting is non-biased. All members are encouraged to vote.
One or more meetings per year are dedicated to finishing charity quilts. The Charity Director determines which organizations receive these quilts based on suggestions made by the members. Arrangements are made to present the quilts and any member is invited to attend. A charity quilt can be a simple pre-printed panel, two pieces of fabric tied together into a quilt or they can be as intricate as pieced quilts that have been hand quilted. All donations are welcome, and charity quilts are accepted anytime throughout the year.
Meetings are held at the Antioch Township Center located on the East side of Deep Lake Road just North of the intersection of Grass Lake Road and Deep Lake Road in Antioch, Illinois. We meet the first Wednesday of each month January
through November. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 7:00 p.m.
Refreshments are provided by members who volunteer in advance of each meeting.
Visitors are always welcome, please see Membership
for more information.
The map below should help anyone locate the Antioch Township Center. Thanks to Mapquest for the map.

Our business meeting agenda includes introduction of guests and new members, announcements, updates of current activities of upcoming programs, block of the month exchanges, and sharing of our Show and Tell projects. Meetings may also include a special program or socializing among our members. See the newsletter for items of interest.
This program is designed to encourage various activities surrounding the art of quilting. Points are awarded upon notification through the monthly sign-in sheet. At your first 10 points, you will receive a pin from the Guild as recognition. After obtaining 20 points, and each 20 point increment thereafter, you may choose a wrapped gift from the grab bag. Gift value is up to $5, sponsored by the Guild in recognition of your participation. Board Members and Committee Chairpersons are expected to be committed to the activity required in their position. The Motivational Points System is designed to reward points for activity 'above and beyond' an appointed or volunteer position, or for members not currently holding a position.
Points:
We have only done one mystery quilt, but with the success of the program, there will more likely be more!
A newsletter is published by the
Newsletter Editor. It includes notices about upcoming events or programs,
quilting tips and other articles submitted by the membership. The newsletter is
a place for any quilt-related news and members are encouraged to submit articles
they have written regarding their experiences or products they have used. The
newsletter is mailed around the 15th of each month, so that it arrives in time
to provide information surrounding upcoming events.
The NLCQG Quilt Show is an event held every odd-numbered year. This year for the first time it will be in
the Fall of 2009. An exhibit of quilts and quilted items made or owned by our members are the main attraction.
The show consists of, but is not limited to, vendors, silent auction, demonstrations, raffle quilt
display and ticket sales. Every member is expected to
participate in some way to the success of our raffle quilt, as this is one of
our largest fund raisers. The Raffle Quilt Committee is comprised of two or more
members who volunteer to coordinate raffle quilt activities. Raffle quilt
designs will be submitted to the membership and a vote will be held. Once the
project is determined, the committee will oversee the activity required to bring
the quilt to its finished status. Raffle quilts are started shortly after the
quilt show, pieced within the next few months, and quilted during the non-show year.
Once the quilt is finished, arrangements can be made for the quilt to travel to various quilts shops,
other guilds, or any function where raffle tickets can be sold.
Each member is asked to sell tickets through the day of the show. The drawing is
held at the conclusion of the show.
Save the date for our 2009 Quilt Show "Lake County Impressions X", November 7-8, 2009. This show will by far
the our most exciting show in our history. The NLCQG will be adding a few new attractions for our community.
There will be Educational sessions short in nature so you do not miss any of the other activities such as
the Make It and Take booths. This is your chance to learn a new technique at no cost to you. Visit the
many exhibits, sit and relax and again learn a new technique. We are also bringing back the Guild Boutique.
This is where we will have lots of fun things buy to fill up all those special Christmas stockings.
A new feature we are hoping to encourage is what we call giving back to the Quilt Community. We are
contacting High Schools in the IL/WI area to see who has been sewing and quilting. The schools that
have sewing and/or quilting classes will be invited to attend our show. It is our hope their teachers
will offer them extra credit for attending. We in turn will give the student a 'Letter' stating they
were in attendance. It will be exciting to see the young appreciate our quilt show and gain inspiration
for their own work.
2009 Quilt Show Information
Secret Sisters is a program that
allows members to secretly exchange small gifts throughout the year. As a Secret
Sister, participants promise to commit themselves for the entire year and to
send/give cards, notes or small gifts for Birthday, Anniversary (when
applicable), and Major Holidays (Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas,
etc). Participants are encouraged to do more if so inclined. Our Secret Sister Program for 2004
will run concurrent with our Membership year. The new year will start in September 2004 and end in September 2005, to coincide with membership renewals. At the beginning of
the year, any interested member submits their name and preferences. Members are
then randomly matched up and information handed back. Secret Sisters are
revealed at the end of the year. The purpose of the program is to
promote friendship and bring a little joy into our lives. The pleasure of
finding a way to brighten someone else's day and to have a little cheer come
into our own lives. It can be a very enriching and rewarding
experience. At every meeting we encourage
members to share their work with the group. Show and Tell items include quilts
tops, finished quilts, quilt blocks, collected or inherited items, articles of
clothing or past class projects. We also encourage the sharing of projects 'in
progress' so that we can learn from each other. Show and Tell is motivational as
well as an inspirational part of our meeting. Workshops and Outside Activities NLCQG arranges workshops or other
outside activities such as trips to quilt shops. Workshops may require an extra
fee that must be paid at time of enrollment. If volunteer drivers are needed for
transportation, the driver can request reimbursement for the gas expense at the
rate of $.25 per mile, payable to the guild or a collection from riders for that
particular event can be offered in lieu of payment from the guild.
