July’s Meeting will be held at the Hastings Lake Shelter A. The general meeting will start at 6:00 PM followed by our annual ice cream social. Since the guild has the shelter all day, members may come early to sit & sew, visit and participate in some optional activities. Optional – Sit & (Hand) Stitch starting at 3pm
Members are welcome to gather to visit and work on some hand stitching starting at 3pm.
Optional – Hastings Lake Nature Walk at 4pm
Join us for a nature walk around Hastings Lake. We’ll follow a paved (mostly level) 2 mile path around the lake. The path meanders through forest areas and crosses over marshes on wooden walkways. If we’re lucky we’ll see swans, blue herons, egrets along with lots of other birds. Wild flowers should be blooming too! The loop around the lake is about 4500 steps and will take about an hour. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water especially if it’s hot. We’ll meet at Shelter A at Hastings Lake and begin our walk at 4:00PM. If you don’t want to walk all the way around the lake, you can turn around at any time.
Optional – Picnic/Cook Out at 5pm
Join us for an optional Picnic/Cook Out at 5pm. The shelter has BBQ grills available to use. What do you need to bring? 1. Hot dog, burger or whatever to toss on the grill. 2. A small side to share (chips, pasta salad, etc) 3. Something cool to drink (non-alcoholic) 4. A smile and fun conversation Paper plates, napkins, plastic utensils, and condiments (mustard, ketchup & relish) will be provided. Everyone is welcome to join us – to eat, laugh and enjoy the beautiful park. Remember to save room for Ice Cream!
Meeting & Ice Cream Social at 6pm
Due to the Hastings Lake operating hours, our meeting needs to end by dusk (approx. 8:30pm), therefore our meeting needs to start at 6:00pm. Following our general meeting, we will have ice cream, frozen yogurt, and root beer floats. Ice water and ice tea will be provided too! We have extended an invitation to the Sunshine Quilters to join us for the festivities. It’s a nice way to meet other quilters. Please join us for ice cream and lots of fun!
Drections from the township center to Hastings Lake
Go south on Deep Lake Road about 1 mile to Gelden Road.
Turn left on Gelden road.
Go about 1 mile to the Forest Preserver entrance.
Turn right into the Forest preserve.
Shelter A is the first parking lot on your right.
